Northern Ireland's Wedding Journal Winter 2011

In August I had the pleasure of yet again working on a wedding shoot for the Northern Ireland's Wedding Journal. It was for their Winter Edition and it was to be shot in the Four Seasons Suite in Galgorm Manor in Ballymena. When I was given the brief from the WJ's editor and stylist's Sarah-Jayne Cassells & Tara Craig that it would be a seventies bridal style shoot I was just beside myself with excitement. I was even more excited to be working with the photographer Paula O'hara and make-up artist Jennifer Ireland again. They are both such inspirational artists and people. We were lucky enough to have been given the choice of model from Style Academy and Kristen Gillespie just radiated 70's glamour. Her look was just perfect! Paula set about making up mood boards and emailing me all her ideas for the shoot. I got to work with some amazing headpieces ranging from B Ford by Ursula Bamford to Grainne Maher Millinery. Just love their individual styles. I also brought along my Granny Sloan's hat from the 70's. She actually wore it to my parents wedding day in 1972. So it was proper vintage. I just had so much fun creating the hairstlyes for this shoot. 70's vogue glamour was my inspiration and Jerry Hall my hair icon for it.  I really did have the best day working on this shoot. It is always a pleasure working with such talented inspiring girls xxx

Northern Ireland's Wedding Journal

On Tuesday 21st June 2011 I went on a "wee" road trip with Jennifer Ireland (http://www.jenniferirelandmakeup.co.uk) and Paula O'Hara (http://www.paulaohara.com) to Co.Carlow. Our location was Huntington Castle. We had been asked to do a photoshoot for Northern Ireland's Wedding Journal. Of course when I got the call I jumped at the chance and didnt even think twice about saying yes. At first I had to pinch myself a few times. An editorial that was going to be published! Me, little old me!! I couldnt believe it. I was thrilled. My whole hairdressing career I had longed to do an editorial, so when we got together to discuss ideas and compare tear sheets it was great we all had the same ideas in mind. I was just thrilled not only to be working with Paula and Jennifer again but to be working for the Wedding Journal. That night amongst the creepy spiders that hid in what seemed like every corner and behind every curtain and for poor Jamie the model her bed! eek!! we discussed our ideas with the sylist and sub editor Sarah-Jayne. Everyone was on the same page and as we had an early start, 5am to be precise an early night was required. I on the other hand was 1, to excited to sleep, I felt like a kid at christmas waiting on santa coming and 2, the thought of the spiders made me uneasy so a good nights sleep was not had. It didnt make me tired though, I was too hyped on excitement for the shoot. Wednesday 22nd June, *beep* *beep* *beep* my alarm was going off, 5am flashing!!! up, breakfast, dressed and stuck into the hair. Our model Jamie O'connell from 1st Option Model Agency in Dublin was just beautiful. Her hair was perfect for this shoot. I couldnt off been happier. Between heavy rain, light rain, sunshine, bugs and walking in wellyboots we made our way through the grounds of the castle and Paula O'Hara captured the most amazing photos. We had some friends that day too, mouse and otto the most beautiful dogs, one so tiny and one so big they were nearly comical together and not forgetting the gorgeous potbelly pigs that seemed to like to follow us when they could. We had 11 dresses to shoot and not much time inbetween to do the hair changes so it was all go, go, go from the start. Thankfully we all worked well together and got the shots we needed. Once it was a wrap and the final photos were taken we got given some yummy goodies from the owner of the castle Alex. He was such a sweetheart and his family made us so welcome. He even caught our spiders for us which was great :) The magazine was published in August 2011 and to my delight one of the images from our shoot made front page!! I dont think I have been prouder! 12 pages inside and front page. Just such an honor. I had so much fun and loved every minute of my time working with the Wedding Journal. I will be keeping a copy or two of the magazine so in years to come I can show it off and still be proud of it.

Y Factor Project for Mencap NI 2011

At the end of last year I was approached by Laura McManus of Mencap for Northern Ireland. She was involved in organising the 2011's Y Factor Project. This was a show that travelled across Northern Ireland showcasing local talent in a singing contest. Anyone was free to enter the competition and each heat had an overall winner that then went on to the final heat in Omagh. Of course I jumped at the chance to be apart of such a great project. A close family friend has a daughter with down syndrome and I know first hand how hard it can be to try to get peoples prejudice's lifted. I was lucky enough to be working along side the beautiful Jennifer Ireland, an amazing Makeup Artist and now good friend. We travelled to Belfast, Londonderry, Newry and Omagh. Lots of fun for us on our multiply road trips. The overall winner of the Y Factor Project was Kate McCusker, she was so talented. She took part in the Omagh heat and made it through to sing again in the final. She sang an acoustic version of Adele's "make you feel my love" and blew everyone away with her talent. A worthy winner indeed! This was all in the bid to raise awareness of what Mencap actually does in Northern Ireland. This charity helps so many families and children with learning disabilities and difficulties. It helps educate people also and make us more aware of what can be done to help in the education and well being of the young children and families affected. I met some amazing beautiful people through being part of this Project and would like to thank everyone involved. An amazing amount of money was raised throughout the course of the Project, nearly £30'000!!! FANTASTIC!!!

Showcasing for B Ford

A couple of months ago I was asked to do the hair for Ursula Bamford. She owns her own company called B Ford http://www.facebook.com/pages/B-Ford/145487308832284 . She lovingly handmakes headpieces for every occasion. She will even make you your very own personal headpiece to match any outfit. Ursula is making me a headband for my own wedding day in November which I am so excited about. So of course I jumped at the chance to work with her professionally and style the hair to bring to life her amazing headpieces. Again on this shoot I worked with Jennifer Ireland www.jenniferirelandmakeup.co.uk on make-up and I got to work with Jess Holmes the photographer. I have done a couple of shoots with Jess now. She is very creative and looks at photography in a very fresh and new way. You can check out her work on www.vitaviephotographic.com . Ursula's sister Judi Bamford assisted on the shoot and styled the girls beautifully. She had been given the lend of some beautiful clothes from Liberty Blue in Belfast and had sourced clothes from her own wardrobe. It all came together beautifully on the day. I was very happy to be apart of such a lovely relaxed shoot.

Spring Bridal Shoot

On Monday 9th May 2011 my alarm woke me very early. I was going on another road trip with Jennifer Ireland and Ursula Bamford. We were going to Ballymena to visit Lissanoure Castle to do a Wedding Shoot with the crazy talented photographer Paula O'Hara. The lovely people of Lissanoure Castle kindly let us use their house to get ready in and prepare for the shoot. I was very excited as they are my favourite team of girls to work with. Paula had given us all a brief and I took my inspirations from the website www.KissTheGroom.com. Photographer Elizabeth Messina was my inspiration from this site. If you go to www.paulaohara.com and check out Paula's work, the way she can capture a moment is just breathtaking. She really is amazing!! We all agreed that we wanted to do a wedding shoot with abit of a twist. Paula got two amazing models for the job, Collette O'neill @ Style Academy and Richard Skinner @ First Option Model Agency and Alison Campbell. Their chemistry just worked so well and made the shoot believable. We got Nikita Tully to style the shoot. She got some beautiful wedding gowns from Petticoat Lane in Lisburn www.petticoatlanebridal.com and suits from Red in Carrickfergus. The short lace dress featured in the shoot belonged to myself. Nikita got jewellery and wedding bouquets from Sharon Hay of www.innocentchaos.co.uk . Her handmade pieces are just beautiful and all individually crafted. Her work is right up my street and I already own quite alot of her stuff and she is making me my own wedding bouquet which is brillaint!! I just LOVE her stuff. To work with such talented people in Ireland is fantastic. Jennifer Ireland again just blew me away with her make-up skills, you can see her work at www.jenniferirelandmakeup.co.uk and Ursula Bamford is the owner of B Ford, she lovingly handmakes head pieces for weddings but also for everyday use when your just feeling like jazzing up an outfit and want that little bit of something special. You can see her stuff at http://www.facebook.com/pages/B-Ford/145487308832284 . I am truely blessed to have worked with all the people on this shoot and I am looking forward to continuing with our creative shoots. Thanks girls. xox

Red Riding Hood Creative Shoot

On Sunday 30th January 2011 I woke up extremely excited as I knew I had a big day ahead of me. I had to wrap up warm and make a picnic. I was going to Tardree Forest in Ballymena to do the hair (http://www.facebook.com/lynetteballhair) for a photo shoot. I had been asked to work with the crazy talented and beautiful photographer Paula O'Hara who created the vision and made this shoot possible. Jennifer Ireland the amazing make-up artist came up with the most different and beautiful make-up for the shoot. She even lovingly hand glued small red swarski crystals to Nikita Tully our beautiful model and wonderful stylist for the shoot's lips. It just brought the whole thing together. We were so lucky to have been lent the handsome husky dog Shadow from Paula's friend Marcus who breeds Kianna Malmutes and is just a fabulous man. We shot the whole shoot in Tardree Forest in Ballymena and even though we stood in the cold for over 3 hours it was worth every minute of it when we got the shots. Paula O'hara is truely an inspiration to us all. Her ability to capture a moment on camera is just out of this world. I am so lucky to work with her. The same goes to Jennifer Ireland and Nikita Tully. I hope I will continue to work such beautiful and talented girls. I am truely blessed. The links below will take you to Paula and Jennifer's webpages and if you require a model or stylist please email Nikita at her email address below. I promise you wont be disappointed with the girls. They are truely talented.
